A Culture of Philanthropy
Here at Tallan, we take great pride in nurturing a culture that offers many opportunities for our employees to volunteer in philanthropic efforts. From golf tournaments to 5K marathons, our employees are always eager to participate in events that help give back to our local communities and charities.
As we approach the halfway point of the 2016 year, we would like to take the opportunity to highlight some of our philanthropic efforts so far, and the exciting opportunities we have planned in the near future.
The O’Hartford 5K
This year, we were lucky enough to have a great, and very green group of staffers participate in the O’Hartford 5K on March 20th. The event was the culmination to Hartford’s weekend of St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
The event benefitted the Foodshare of Greater Hartford foundation, whose mission is to end hunger in Greater Hartford, as a part of the overall community effort to eliminate poverty in all 42 towns making up the Hartford and Tolland counties. This year’s event was able to provide over 10,000 lbs. of food, and has helped Foodshare take one step closer to their goal of ending poverty in the local community.
FIRST Robotics Competition
This year, Tallan sponsored FIRST Robotics Team 1991 “The Dragons” – out of the University High School of Science and Engineering, Hartford. The team ranked 42nd overall, and went all the way world championships held in St. Louis!
The FIRST Robotics Competition is an event where high school aged teams of 25+ students compete head-to-head in high-tech competition. The teams have six weeks to design and build robots that perform challenging tasks against the field of competitors. Through the competition, the teams raise funds to build their robots, design a team brand, gain teamwork skills, and perform community outreach in the process.
Tallan was honored to sponsor such an amazing group of young technologists, providing them an opportunity to learn valuable STEM and leadership skills, and the opportunity to apply for $25+ million in college scholarships. Great Job Dragons!

Color Me Rad 5K
The Color Me Rad 5K brought together a colorful bunch of Tallan team members to once again fight hunger and poverty in the local communities. Through Color Me Rad, our employees started out the 5K with clean white tees and finished covered in all colors of the rainbow.
Throughout the run, volunteers coat the runners with liquids, powders, and gels of all different colors until they cross the finish line into a final “blitzkrieg of color”. This fun 5K run was in support of Color Me Rad’s charity partner, FeedOne, whose mission is to provide nutritious food for children and families in need. Each dollar raised from the event will be used to feed a hungry child for one month, helping give area children a much brighter and more colorful future ahead.
2016 CT Tour de Cure
This year, Tallan is honored to be sponsoring a team to compete in the 64 mile Tour de Cure held in Durham, CT on June 12th. This is the 25th Anniversary of the Tour de Cure, and our team is looking forward to contributing to the fight against Diabetes.
With 29 million individuals suffering with Diabetes in the United States, Team Tallan is excited to join the American Diabetes Association ride and raise money to help diminish that statistic.
If you can’t join us for this event, we encourage you to join the fight in any way you can. Click Here to donate toward our team efforts, and help us gear up and ride to stop Diabetes!
Red Nose Day
Nothing like having some fun for a cause and Red Nose Day is no exception here. The entire Tallan family came together to support efforts to raise children out of poverty with the purchase of the organization’s signature red clown nose and proud promotion of our happy, smiley faces wearing them! Such a small and simple gesture can create such impact in the world and that same mentality truly embodies our philanthropic culture here at Tallan. We are proud to have impacted this year’s campaign that raised over $31.5 million globally.
